A new study program of Economics Department, Economics and Business Department, Universitas Brawijaya namely Islamic Economics has been accredited A by BAN PT based on SK BAN PT No. 478/SK/BAN-PT/Akred/S/XII/2014. The accreditation shows that Islamic Economics Study Program of Economics Department, Economics and Business Department, Universitas Brawijaya becomes the first new study program obtaining A both in Universitas Brawijaya and in Indonesia.

The accreditation was proposed because Islamic Economics Study Program of Economics Department, Economics and Business Department, Universitas Brawijaya has run since 2011. The establishment of the study program was based on SK Rektor Universitas Brawijaya No. 289/SK/2011 concerning about the establishment of an undergraduate study program (S1), which is Islamic Economics Study Program of Economics Department, Economics and Business Department, Universitas Brawijaya.

Islamic Economics Study Program of Economics Department, Economics and Business Department, Universitas Brawijaya, then, proposed official approval from DIKTI by using the Universitas Brawijaya Rector’s letter. In October 2013, Islamic Economics Study Program of Economics Department, Economics and Business Department, Universitas Brawijaya earned the official approval from DIKTI with SK 515/E/0/2013 concerning about the establishment of Islamic Economics Study Program of Economics Department, Economics and Business Department, Universitas Brawijaya. Historically, Islamic Economics was a course offered in Development Economics Study Program since 2009/ 2010. From year to year the number of the students interested to the course was getting higher. Therefore, the course was developed to a study program in Economics Department, Economics and Business Department, Universitas Brawijaya.

From November 11 to 13, 2014, BAN PT visited Islamic Economics Study Program of Economics Department, Economics and Business Department, Universitas Brawijaya. The assessors were Prof. Samsubar Saleh from Gajah Mada University Yogyakarta and Prof. Ahmad Romdhni from State Islamic University Syarif HidayatulahJakarta. Some aspects were assessed during the visit of BAN PT. the aspects were visions and mission of Islamic Economics Study Program, organizational structure run by Islamic Economics Study Program, Islamic Economics Study Program students’ achievement academically and non-academically, curriculum conducted by Islamic Economics Study Program, supporting fund for the development of Tri Dharma of University (Lecture, Research, and Community Service), and facilities as well as infrastructure to support teaching learning activities.

Dr. Iswan Noor, SE., ME., the head of Islamic Economics Study Program, states, ”Alhamdulillah, as a new study program proposing accreditation for the first time, grade A would not be gained by Islamic Economics Study Program of Economics Department, Economics and Business Department, Universitas Brawijaya without help, support, and prayer from university, faculty, department, lecturers, students, and scientific forums related to the development of Islamic Economics Study Program. Hopefully the accreditation can make Islamic Economics Study Program of Economics Department, Economics and Business Department, Universitas Brawijaya better and more qualified in giving academic services as well as can give benefits for society. Gaining grade A is not an easy task for an education institution to maintain the quality of academic service for society.” [yni/rian]
